Year 12 and 13 students from Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form took a trip to BT Adastral Park in Suffolk for an insight into the research and development that takes place there.

Adastral Park is a cluster of companies in technology and communications that work at the heart of the UK’s digital operations with facilities for research and development, leading the digital ecosystem of the UK. There is over 150 high-tech companies based at Adastral Park with over 60,000 visitors every year to the park.

One of our students said:

“The trip to the BT Adastral Park was very informative and provided me with a good insight into what I could do in the future with the wealth of opportunities a career in Computer Science offers.”

The Insights Experience that our students went on consisted of a welcome presentation, showcase tour of the park and an early careers panel to give insight into what it is like to work at Adastral Park and in the technology and communications industries. The panel was led by 2 apprentices and 2 graduates who talked about their experiences getting to this point and any advice they had for our students looking to enter this industry.

Dr Trudy Coleman said:

“BT Adastral Park was amazing! The future and cutting edge technology in the showcase was extremely impressive. The students had hands-on experience, offering them an insight into what lies ahead if they choose to embark on a career with a major tech company like BT.”

There were further chances for lab visits and technology talks throughout the day, students had the opportunity to look at the Drones Lab and were given tours of facilities on site as part of the Innovation Showcases.
